The Annual Shakambari Festival 2016 at the historic Bhadrakali temple in Warangal district is scheduled to begin on July 5 Tuesday. According to the Temple chief priest, B Seshagiri Rao and executive officer K Anjani Devi informed that the event begins on July 5 with ‘Sahasra Kalasabhishekam’ and concludes on July 19. During the 15-day event, the temple deity would be decorated with different kinds of vegetables, which is the eye feast to the visitors of the bhadrakali temple.

The decorations would depict her incarnations during the celebrations. On July 19, on which ‘Guru Poornima’ falls, the deity would be decorated as ‘Sakambari’, said the chief priest addressing a press conference at the temple on Sunday.
Bhadrakali temple is one of the few temples in the State, where ‘Navaratri Chatushtayam’ is being organised. The temple is a special temple and the flow of devotees is increasing as they feel benevolence of the deity in granting their wishes, he explained.
Inspired by Shakambari festival at Bhadrakali temple, trustees of Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple, Bhramarambika temple in Srisailam and many others have also started celebrating the event at their respective temples, he added.
Anjani Devi said elaborate arrangements are being made for the smooth and successful conduct of the festival. It is expected that nearly 10,000 devotees would visit the temple every day from different parts of Telugu states to take part in the event.
Departments like Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, health, police and others are making the arrangements like sanitation, drinking water, barricading for queue lines and installation of CCTVs. During the festival, special pujas and cultural programmes would also be held. A publicity poster for the event is released on the occasion.

Shakambari festival at Vijayawada Kanaka Durga Temple
The annual Shakambari Festival held at the world famous Vijayawada Kanaka Durga Temple in Ashada month will begin on July 17, 2016. During the three-day annual festival, Goddess Durga takes the form of Mother Shakambari – she is adorned with green leaves and vegetables. In 2016, the Shakambari festival is from July 17 to July 19. It is observed from Ashada Shukla Paksha Trayodasi to Purnima.
